Project Overview

AV Vantage was engaged to design and integrate the entertainment and AV systems for QJD Peking Duck in Mississauga, a premium Chinese restaurant known for traditional cuisine and a strong focus on the Peking duck dining experience.

The project went far beyond a conventional restaurant sound system.

The client wanted the main dining hall to function not only as a dining space, but also as a flexible performance and event environment suitable for private parties, live performances and special celebrations.

In addition, AV Vantage was asked to design and install six private VIP KTV rooms, each focused on elegant presentation, high-quality sound and simple guest operation.

The result is a multi-purpose hospitality environment where dining, live entertainment and private karaoke are integrated into one cohesive experience.

The Vision

The restaurant needed multiple experiences to coexist within the same venue.

The main dining hall had to remain refined and comfortable during normal restaurant service.

For events and performances, the same space needed to transform into a high-energy entertainment environment with powerful sound, stage lighting and a large-format visual display.

At the same time, the VIP rooms needed to offer a more intimate private entertainment experience with premium karaoke sound and an interface that guests could use easily.

The objective was therefore not simply to install AV equipment.

It was to create a complete hospitality entertainment platform that could support dining, celebration and performance.

The Challenge

The project presented several significant design and installation challenges.

Very High Ceiling

The main dining hall features a very high ceiling, making traditional ceiling speaker installation difficult and creating challenges for even sound coverage.

Speakers placed too high or too far apart could create uneven volume levels, weak vocal clarity and areas with inconsistent coverage.

The system therefore had to be designed carefully around the height, dimensions and seating layout of the room.

Large Open Dining Area

The main dining space needed consistent audio coverage across a large area.

Sound had to remain balanced throughout the room without creating areas that felt excessively loud or too quiet.

The design also needed enough output and dynamic range to support live performances and event use.

Multi-Purpose Operation

The dining hall needed to work in several different modes:

• Background music during normal dining

• Speeches and presentations

• Private events and parties

• Live performances

• Stage entertainment

Each mode places different demands on the audio and control system.

Visual Impact

For a venue intended to host performances and celebrations, conventional televisions would not provide enough visual impact.

The client wanted a larger and more impressive display solution that could become part of the stage experience.

Our Design Approach

AV Vantage developed the system around the architecture and daily operation of the restaurant.

The overall design was divided into two major areas:

1. Main Dining Hall & Performance Space

2. Six Private VIP KTV Rooms

Each area required a different technical approach, but the overall objective remained the same:

deliver professional performance while keeping operation straightforward for restaurant staff and guests.

Main Dining Hall Audio Design

The audio system for the dining hall was designed around the unusually high ceiling and large open floor area.

Rather than relying on simple overhead coverage, speaker locations and dispersion were carefully planned to provide more consistent sound across the main seating areas.

The design focused on:

• Balanced room coverage

• Clear speech reproduction

• Controlled volume distribution

• Strong musical performance

• Sufficient headroom for events and live entertainment

The system was tuned so the room could support comfortable background music during normal dining while also delivering substantially greater energy when used for parties or performances.

Stage & Performance Integration

A dedicated stage area was created to support the restaurant's event and entertainment requirements.

AV Vantage integrated the audio, lighting and visual systems around the stage so that the dining hall could transition quickly from everyday restaurant service to a performance environment.

The stage system was designed to support:

• Live music

• Vocal performances

• Speeches

• Special events

• Private celebrations

• Corporate or family functions

This gives the restaurant significantly more flexibility in how the main dining space can be used.

Performance Lighting

Stage lighting was integrated to create the appropriate atmosphere for different types of events.

The lighting system helps shift the visual character of the room between normal dining and entertainment modes.

Rather than treating lighting as a separate feature, it was coordinated with the stage and AV systems to create a more complete performance environment.

250-Inch LED Video Wall

Instead of using a conventional television or projection screen, AV Vantage installed a large 250-inch LED video wall as the visual centrepiece of the stage area.

The LED wall provides a significantly larger and brighter image suitable for a commercial hospitality environment.

It can support:

• Event visuals

• Performance content

• Music videos

• Presentations

• Celebration graphics

• Special programming

The large-format display gives the room much greater visual impact and helps transform the dining hall into a true event and performance space when required.

Six VIP KTV Rooms

In addition to the main dining hall, AV Vantage designed and integrated six private VIP KTV rooms.

Each room was designed around three priorities:

Elegant Presentation

The AV equipment needed to complement the interior design rather than dominate the room.

Speaker placement, cabling and system components were integrated carefully to maintain a polished hospitality environment.

High-Quality Sound

Each VIP room required strong music reproduction and clear vocal performance.

The systems were designed and calibrated specifically for the smaller room dimensions so guests could enjoy powerful karaoke without excessive harshness, echo or feedback.

User-Friendly Operation

Restaurant guests should not need technical assistance every time they want to sing.

The karaoke systems were configured for straightforward song selection, microphone use and everyday control.

The objective was to make the technology disappear into the experience.

One Venue, Multiple Experiences

The completed project allows QJD Peking Duck to operate as much more than a restaurant.

During normal service, the dining hall remains a refined hospitality environment.

For private functions, the space can become a large event venue.

For performances, the stage, lighting, sound system and 250-inch LED wall work together to create a much more immersive experience.

Meanwhile, the six VIP KTV rooms provide guests with private entertainment spaces for smaller groups and celebrations.

This flexibility gives the venue multiple ways to serve its customers within one integrated property.

The Result

The completed AV and entertainment system transformed the restaurant into a flexible hospitality and performance destination.
